Another poll to decide if we keep these on or not.

I would like to eventually try and implement a function like DayZero has in future, whereby you have to study a body before the kill is registered to you on your debug monitor. This is good because it discourages camping after a kill and leads to better gameplay.

I think lack of death messages in general leads to better game play, its a lot more intense when you don't know if you have killed a guy or knocked him out. I can appreciate that death messages can be a good source of intel to other players and clans though...

What do you all think?

Well, honestly, I don't mind either choice, but I voted no death messages.

What if, instead of names (and in combination with the old death messages, we had on the server) the messages would look something like this:

Bandit killed Survivor from 300 meters with m4a1 cco.
Hero killed Bandit from 200 meters with AK-74.

I have no idea if that's even a possibility, but instead of your name, let them post your humanity rank.

Having to study a body, before you get the credit, is also a big gamechanger. In my opinion, one for the better, you list all the positives and I pretty much agree.

I dont mind dropping death messages. it adds more dimension to the game.

I like not having DM's because it then allows you to remain anonymous to the rest of the server, but at the same time it is nice to be able to have everyone see you killing everyone.. :evil: I like the DayZ Origins style death messages.

No, the range this is gonna get in the way, if omen got shot next to me and it would say 800 meters, BAM! Automatic rangefinding and distance of the enemy.

wtf, no, not me getting shot. if you were next to me, and I got a kill on a group of enemies, then they would know how far they are, and you would too and try to steal all my kills!!

and only once was i killed form 800m! i was being an idiot and laying prone in the middle of the runway at nea with adfix.

I wouldnt like that you actually have to study a body, but if the kill msgs are disabled you wouldn't know who you just killed so you cant figure out if he's alone or not. This brings a lot of paranoia to the game, which I personally enjoy. Couldn't it be made that it takes time say like 5 min until it shows up on your debug? This way you also can't rely on that if you have killed him or not.

I should have said earlier but this poll refers to death messages in general, not the "X killed Y with weapon Z" style messages.

I am talking about the "Seaweed was killed." in the bottom left message you get right now. Turning that off completely.... Have enabled revoting on the poll in case anyone wants to change their mind.

No where near enough time to come and play on my favourite game, on the best server out there, but i like the death messages. I'm always impressed if someone takes me out from a big distance. This is dayz, you are going to die. Knowing that the guy who killed you did it with some degree of skill makes it a bit more fun. Doesn't need their name though. ;)

if death messages are kept, maybe do some if statements...quick example

if(distance < 5m)
{
print "Bernard was killed at point blank range.";
}

if((distance > 100m) && (distance < 500m))
{
print "Bernard was killed from over 100m away.";
}

if((distance > 500m) && (distance < 1000m))
{
print "Bernard was killed from over 500m away.";
}

if(distance >1000m)
{
print "Holy shit...Bernard was killed from over 1km away!";
}
