This has long been a hot topic of debate on the server. I've never made any secret that I personally enjoy this game a lot more with no 3rd person. The only reason this server is not a 1st person only server is player count.

Popular opinion these days seems to be turning more so in the favor of 1st person gameplay, I would like to use this poll to get a feel for what people think about it. I'm not saying this will definitely mean I switch the server to 1st person but it does give me a better idea of what you guys think.

It's great have 30-40 people online at peak times recently, my gut instinct is that 1st person only will hurt that player count a lot. Once player count drops below a certain level even our regular players won't login. That said besides dayZero there are virtually no high pop 1st person only servers, so even if we could bring 10-20 people regularly at peak times I'm sure we could attract some new players to the server.

i don't mind either way but the player count will drop for sure. Look at the complaining when you left a file out after a restart and nobody could use 3rd person. And that was 5 minutes. Should be interesting this one

Yeah I think you are probably right but I still wanted to get a feel for what general opinion is. The poll isn't going to decide anything but it will help me with making my mind up. I think 75% of the server was complaining that time I forgot to enable 3rd person mode.

I'm also pretty sure I can write a script to allow 3rd person only in certain circumstances (such as vehicles), the downside to this would be the server would still show up as a 3rd person server in dayzcommander so we wouldnt attract the 1st person crowd in. Alternately I could stop 3rd person working only in certain conditions e.g prone etc.

Personally I would opt for a go or not go scenario because if you decide to allow in some cases you did not change the fact that people can see things they should not be able to. You only limited the time they can do it.

Personally I have no experience playing in first person and after watching the video I can imagine that it is going to offer a more realistic and tension building experience. On the other side I wonder how this will affect the gap between skilled and new players. Being relatively new to the server myself I feel like if this somehow makes the gap bigger I would be against it because I am already struggling to keep myselfe alive.

Another question that I wonder about is how this will affect the player V zombie interaction. Right now third person allows you to see if you pulled agro or not in some situations. This is very valuable to me. What I would personally would like to see is a change in the noise zombies make when you agro them. Right now its impossible to determine whether or not they are coming after you.

Not sure how the rest thinks about this but like I mentioned above I simply lack the experience to formulate an educated answer.

Maybe we could try first person only for a short period of time and then have a poll?

My answer :-

I would play here just as much if there was only 1st person.

The only things that worries me are:-

a) the basebuilding would be almost impossible to see the placement of certain items.
b) sometimes when your in a vehicle, you need 3rd person. Esp if you need to reverse a vehicle.
c) the server numbers are (thankfully) just starting to increase again. I'd be worried about scaring off a lot of the new people.

I prefer 1st person servers, and I would play here regardless of what perspective I could play in.

Certain instances 3rd person is needed, such as base building and that is a key feature to this server.

edit - after watching the video on 1st vs 3rd person, im sold completely, make it 1st!!

The video does make it pretty clear. who wouldnt want a more enjoyable experiance. This would make a fair impact on player count, but it could also attract the more veteran of players to the server.

When i first joined Dayz i played on a 1st person only private hive server. its how i player for a very long time. ive adapted to both with what skill i do posess. id welcome 1st person with open arms as i do recall it being a very intense experiance.
