Post subject:  Hardcore Server

So I set a second server up on Saturday, this thread will be the home of all discussion relating to the hardcore server.

Server details
- Exactly the same mods as server 1 currently, only difference is 3rd person and death messages are disabled.
- Fresh database independent of server 1
- 85 Vehicles currently
- Characters were copied from server 1 on Saturday, just to encourage people to play there a bit more.

If people want to move their base from server 1 -> server 2 contact and admin and this can be arranged.

DayZ is very single core limited on the serverside, so hosting 2 or even 3 servers isn't really adding much additional strain to the server itself. So you shouldn't really notice a difference in server 1 even though the box is now hosting 2 instances.

I've wanted to do a hardcore server for a while if you have any suggestions or feedback for it feel free to post them here. Statistics and all that good stuff can be gathered and if the server is popular enough with time we'll work them into the stats page.

Already killed by zeds XD no good idea to go into a crashside without a melee weapon ^^

Maybe disable to spawnselection and the debug window? Not sure how much work that is

I'll turn the spawn selection off next restart, I'll leave debug on for now it can be toggled off anyway. Maybe in future I'll default it to off, I'm trying to avoid too many changes between main server and hc at the moment though as it means I have twice as many files to update each time I patch the main server. Will be easier in future once I've automated some things.

was just thinking that its cool if the shooter does not know whether im dead or not and he can get that info from the debug but i get your point =)

Can you reset the humanity for this new server?

How about more damage for the zombies in this one? I have been playing on a Epoch Napf server for a week now and I love it that the zombies there deal betweeen 2000-8000 damage. That is what I call realistic ;)

You could also add more health for the zombies so they only die with headshots or LOADs of ammo.

Can you add more Zombies per player or is that gonna kill the server and the clients? If this is possible, can you maybe slow down the zombies, to balance it?

Will there be a debug monitor? Maybe only for the following: FPS, Humanity, Blood, Zombie Kills

Can you severely limit food supply so its actually a survival game and you have to hunt,fish or build some kind of greenhouse at your base etc?

This is being worked on for both main server and hardcore. Will look into zombie changes in future but I'd prefer things to be the same for both servers where I can for simplicity's sake. That doesn't mean some things like food and zeds can't get harder on the main server too though.

I'll be resetting the stats on the h/c server tonight. I'll keep the characters themselves, but all kills humanity etc will be reset. Should have done this when I launched the server really but I forgot to!

Hardcore vehicles will now spawn the same way vehicles do on vanilla (all parts almost fully damaged)

Is there any way to be able to have 1st person only and then get into a vehicle and use 3rd person?

I don't mean for the HC server but is it possible in Arma 2 Dayz?

Riding bicycles gives me a major headache in 1st person :(

Unfortunately not without showing up as a 3rd person server in peoples dayzcommander, which is a big problem when trying to build numbers in the server even if I have 1st person in the title :/

You maybe could hack something together with an existing model and a harvest mechanic probably but it would be far from ideal. Pumpkins or apple trees spring to mind lol.

indeed XD would be supersweet but would also take out the challange again, there is no way that you can make the growing process chellenging enough. Like having to give the tree a bottle of water every 30 mins for a day before it gives you apples every 30 mins for a day

I can think of a few ways of doing it but they're a bit long winded and you wouldn't be able to actually take an item from your tree because I can't add an "apple" item etc. I'd rather wait and see what dayzmod brings to table in the future regarding things like farming first, as it seems a new patch or two is on the horizon again finally.

One thing I wanted to add which should be obvious already, a ban from the hardcore server = a ban from the main server

The banlist is the same for both servers, as are the rules - www.zerosurvival.net/rules

Also if you want to transfer your base from main server -> hardcore that can be arranged with an admin. Just make sure you are positive about moving first because I don't want to have to move it back and forth a week later!

I was kinda hoping for the new server to be a fresh start for everyone without 1 or 2 old clans already having huge, almost unbreakable bases.

Then again i can also see where this is coming from, it might do very good for the server population.

I just hope it wont stire up the power structure on the current server to much. Would be a shame to see RD or MM completly disapper from the normal one.

Yeah its purely to drive up the server population whilst its quiet, its not something I would offer as an option in the future. I don't think RD are going anywhere, and MM are the biggest third person whores in the world!
