VIP!

2 teams, one player from each team is the VIP and has to be guarded by the opposing team in their base. Objective is to release and defend your VIP and bring them back to your base.

Yeah we decided upon Capture Seaweed earlier, just preparing the server at the moment

There will be 2 teams and 2 bases, you will need to escort me to your base and keep me there for a specific amount of time.

I will be updating everyone on my position regularly like a dumb 14 year old in sidechat

Ok in teamspeak make sure you are in the lobby in the events channel at 7pm and we will get started :)

Here's some more info

If you are participating you will need to be in the events channel in teamspeak. We will be splitting everyone into two teams, we will try and keep squads on the same team where possible.

Once we have everyone in the server I will teleport the two teams to their bases. Each team has a tent with some guns and a Ural for transportation at their base. You will spawn with full toolbelts and backpacks.

I will be updating sidechat on my position regularly, you objective is to capture me this is done by approaching me and telling me that you have some weed in direct chat in game. Once captured you must transport me to your base, you must then hold me there for a timelimit.

First team to hold me in their base successfully wins.

Hope everyone had fun tonight :)

There are definitely some things I would do differently if we have another VIP style event like no urals for each team and no taking VIP in vehicles, but it was still good fun. Looking forward to the next event hopefully we can do something like survivor games again soon :D

Yeah, it was still good fun but I feel it could have been so much more. Maybe we could try with 3 or 4 squads instead of 2.

Glad I finally got a kill on one of the SNM members afterwards. :D I feel a bit more confident about looking for PvP on the server now without thinking "I dont want to lose my gear."

Yeah little battles like that are always fun, I agree too many people per team is no good for longer events for anything in future we'll either maintain squads or have smaller teams and get as much action as we can in.

Also, with things like the little battles...it could be organized a bit better by getting everyone in one area. Spawn a crate for people to get gear from. Let them have 5 minutes then they have to run off into the set location but can't shoot for the first 3 minutes or so.
That way we wont have people getting annoyed at players killing poorly armed players etc.

Thanks for fun night, had a great laugh. Thanks to the plane event I may now stand a chance of stealing the bi-plane and not crashing on take off now. Also had a great laugh in Team 2, especially the airfield raid!

The less said about the airfield raid and DMZ breaking my leg by opening a door the better.

The best part was easily "Why, when you had the entire area of the sky did you decide to fly in to me?" Or words to that effect.

Post subject:  Re: Lets Have Some Fun This Weekend

Was thinking about how I've never played this game at night with high end gear the other day. Just gonna toss this idea into this thread since I can't really find a better place to put it (not that I really looked).

Full nighttime. Squads of 3-5. Placed in secret locations around the map. Preferably closer to residential areas, rather than military.

If you can disable waypoints, then people can start with a map, if not they can only have a compass to begin with.
Possible starting loadout (this is quite minimal):
  • 2 Bandages
  • Sidearm + 2 mags
  • Baked Beans
  • Pepsi
  • Empty Water bottle
  • 12/16 slot bag
  • Hatchet, Hunting Knife, Binos, Flashlight (some people could have normal, some military?), maybe some other things but no matches.

1 Person in squad is given 1 blood bag, 1 Morphene, 1 Epi-pen and 1 Extra bandage.
1 Person in squad is given a low-mid tier primary.

For the first 30-40 mins squads have to try and get the rest of their basic gear/medical supplies/matches for meat etc and try to find everyone else in squad primaries.

After this period Seaweed can begin spawning in ammo crates at secret locations. After a short time we would then give either exact co-ords, rough 4 digit co-ords or maybe just a general "I think I dropped some guns at a small castle, I wonder how i did that?!" kinda thing.
The crates will contain progressively higher and higher tier loot as the game goes on and fewer people remain.
E.g. First crate:
  • 1x Map
  • 1x Box of Matches
  • 1x Mk16
  • 1x Bizon PP9 SD
  • 1x M4A3 CCO
  • 4x STANAG Rounds
  • 2x Bizon Rounds
  • 5x MRE
  • 1x Mountain Dew

Second crate (15 mins later):
  • 2x Map
  • 1x Box of Matches
  • 1x DMR
  • 1x M4A1 CCO SD
  • 1x M16A4 ACOG
  • 2x DMR Rounds
  • 4x STANAG Rounds
  • 3x STANAG SD Rounds
  • 2x M9 SD
  • 2x M9 SD Rounds
  • 1x NVGS
  • 2x MRE

These crates would get better and better spawning more NVG's and compatible weapons as well as weapons with silencer and flashlight attachments. After and hour or so, maybe more, thermal weapons get added to the mix. Also, just an after thought, grenade launcher attachments with flares could also be fun.

Maybe ammo could be rarer than in those crates examples, which would mean players have to make sure they get a good shot.

Map size could also be decreased as players die?

Of course, anything I have said could be changed to make it more fun/practical/harder/easier/faster/longer etc etc.
Just an idea :D
Basicly a bit like Survivor Games but with night time i suppose.

I think I am going to have to make you chief events officer Tom you're good at this shit.

That post has got me all excited now I definitely fancy some night time fights this weekend, I could set those ammo crates up with a bit of prep work either in the database or in sqf code. M203 flares + arma night time = infinite amounts of fun.

Watch this space, likely event on either Saturday or Sunday :D

heh i like how he called a mk16 a lower tier gun :D, there is a slight problem with nighttime fights though, those of us with high contrast LED backlit monitors can see in the dark without NVG's whereas those with normal CCFL backlights and lower contrast ratios can't (the difference between mine and sharpy's/teckmo's monitor is extreme for example, i can make out buildings/people/movement, whereas they only get a big black/grey screen) Some squads might have an advantage because of this

Yeah I hate the normal night time in ARMA it's just annoying full moons are bugged atm :(

I could give everyone NVGs and make it a date with a full moon, the moon will still revert to nomral every half hour or so because of the bug with this dayz patch, but relogging does sort this for the guys who want to keep their nvgs off.

Post subject:  Re: Lets Have Some Fun This Weekend

I have a high contrast LED backlit monitor and honestly cant see shit when it's dark.
One concern I would have though is people messing with their settings to get improved vision. I would hope that most people would play in the spirit of having fun and leave things to default, or a predetermined setting.
